General Summary

Primary responsibilities include evaluating the credit worthiness of businesses and making a determination regarding their ability to repay loans and lines of credit, including those used to purchase equipment and other goods.  This individual reviews various types of commercial loans to ensure acceptable credit standards are maintained and that loans conform to established procedures and regulations.


Essential Functions

Work with the employees in your division/department as a team to effectively and efficiently

  • Develop financial profiles and investigate credit histories.
  • Compile and make comparison of cash and liquid assets versus debt to determine risk rating.
  • Perform and document credit underwriting for new and existing commercial loans while adhering to credit union guidelines.
  • Prepare annual reviews, credit approval forms and credit memos to document loan portfolio performance and to fulfill regulatory requirements.
  • Responsible for reviewing loans to ensure that acceptable credit standards are maintained and that loans conform to established company policy.
  • Draw on previous experience to develop and analyze all types of credit information pertaining to diversified types of commercial loans, prepare credit reports for loan officers and committees, maintain control over credit requirements of current accounts, and furnish information relative to credit inquiries.
  • Conduct investigation and analysis of routine financial data to facilitate the credit extension decision-making process.
  • Use credit reporting services to compile reports regarding the credit history of potential customers.
  • Research and analyze financial statements. Interpret findings and prepare reports of financial position and credit worthiness.
  • Assist with the preparation and presentation to loan committees. May offer opinions regarding financial strength and credit worthiness of the business.
  • Maintain loan documentation files and monitor compliance with terms of loan agreements.
  • Conduct a systematic review of commercial loans to determine adequacy of documentation.
  • Monitor the financial position of established accounts and brings irregularities to the attention of the Department Vice President.
  • Thoroughly understand structure and pricing of borrowing relationship.
  • Be familiar with the basics of portfolio administration.
  • Develop a firm understanding of an ideal prospect profile.
  • Review loans that are held for follow-up and recommend appropriate action.
  • Ensure thorough knowledge and understanding of compliance and regulatory issues relating to loan policy and procedures evidenced by appropriate application of regulations in day-to-day operations.
  • Attend and satisfactorily complete all required training.


Duties & Responsibilities

  • Accompany Commercial Loan Officers calling on customers when required.
  • Assist CLO's in processing renewal documents.
  • Build relationship with existing members with established loans.
  • Demonstrate the highest level of professionalism, efficiency and customer service when resolving member issues.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by management.


Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance, economics or accounting or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • Minimum of 2 years banking or finance experience in a similar position.
  • Knowledge of current lending procedures and policies, lending regulations (state and federal), lien laws and loan documentation.
  • Ability to analyze financial statements and loan risk.

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Possess good judgement skills. Ability to make decisions within prescribed guidelines and research and solve problems. 
  • Able to manage multiple tasks.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office software, particularly with Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Must be able to see, speak, hear, write and read English.
