General Summary

The Commercial Loan Assistant helps the Commercial Lending Staff assist member with their commercial / business lending needs.  This includes member interaction to gather information, answer member questions and close loans.  This position is responsible for processing loan files, creating loan documents and interacting with outside vendors to order appraisals, title work, etc. 


Essential Functions

The Commercial Loan Assistant's essential job responsibilities and functions are to:

  • Process each file from application to closing. Ensure all loan documentation is complete, accurate, verified and that it complies with AGCU and state and federal regulations and policies.
  • Order, gather and verify background information on loan applicants and their business by interviewing applicants and obtaining credit bureau reports, business income statements, appraisals, title insurance and other necessary verification documentation.
  • Prepare all documents for submittal to underwriting.
  • Handle processing of loans of highest complexity, value or risk while collaborating with the VP of Commercial Lending and Collections.
  • Answer complex account and / or loan questions and have the ability to handle issues related to AGCU products and services.
  • Determine collateral needs, if required, and payment plans for members applying for business or business vehicle loans.
  • Originate and complete commercial loan requests within specified time limits so as to meet all crucial deadlines.
  • Promote and cross-sell all products and services using a personal approach when those products and services would benefit the member.
  • Ensure both internal and external service standards are met or exceeded.


Duties & Responsibilities

  • Perform loan transactions efficiently, accurately and in a professional manner while providing quality member service focused on building strong business relationships.
  • Prepare and / or review all loan documents for completeness and accuracy.
  • Track insurance, taxes (real estate) and borrower financial information to ensure continued compliance with all loan requirements.
  • Provide a back-up point of contact for the Vice President Commercial Lending and Collections when they are unavailable.
  • Interview member loan applicants to gather information concerning their business loan needs.
  • Cross sell products and services to meet all of the member's financial needs, looking for opportunities to refinance auto and personal loans that have been placed with other financial institutions.
  • Gather documentation required for business car loans and process paperwork in a timely manner.
  • Maintain a professional, courteous and friendly atmosphere for members and co-workers.
  • Communicate openly and effectively with other departments.
  • Comply with AGCU policies and procedures as outlined in the AGCU employee manual.
  • Demonstrate AGCU Cultural Values on a daily basis.
  • Work branch hours from open to close.
  • Assume other duties and responsibilities as assigned by manager.


Education & Experience

  • Associates degree in a related field of study is preferred.
  • 2 years of relevant lending experience is required.
  • 3 years of experience as a commercial loan clerk, analyst or processor is preferred.



  • Intermediate knowledge of MS Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • PC / technology literate.

  • Ability to read, speak and write English.
